Multiple Music Options Available at Seattle’s Triple Door

Multiple Music Options Available at Seattle’s Triple Door

When you’re in Seattle, you’ve got to make time to hear some great music.
There are lots of venue options to choose from, but I’d strongly recommend fitting in an evening at the Triple Door.  It’s located beneath Wild Ginger restaurant, and across from Benaroya Hall, and offers a couple of options within the same building:  Mainstage and Musicquarium!
Mainstage:  This premium venue was once the Embassy Theatre.  It has now been restored and updated to seat 300-plus people in a modern, acoustically advanced performance room.  The room features classic touches in decor (the gold-framed, red-curtained stage), but solidly modern seating (tables …read more

Seattle’s Gay Bingo is Always a Sell Out

Seattle’s Gay Bingo is Always a Sell Out

Seattle is not the kind of place where you need to plan months in advance for things.  Oh sure, there are the big concerts, opening nights, and a few random restaurants where you can’t wait till the last minute.  However, most places in the Seattle area, with a week or so of notice, you’ll be fine.  With less notice, you even stand a good chance of pulling it off at the last minute, with a little patience and determination.  We’re a pretty casual kind of place about advance planning.
But – and you knew there was a catch – if you …read more

Photo Op: Seattle’s Famous Pike Place Market

Photo Op: Seattle’s Famous Pike Place Market

Location:  Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market, located at the foot of Pike Street (First & Pike).  This time of year, you can go during the week and avoid much of the crowds.  During the summer it’s jammed with people, no matter the day or time.  At the market, you’ll find great produce, meats, fish, and handicrafts for sale.
This photo is part of my Projet 365, a year long commitment to take one photo a day for the entire year.

Wurm Your Way Through Seattle at the Frye Museum

Wurm Your Way Through Seattle at the Frye Museum

If you’re in Seattle this weekend, run – don’t walk – to the Frye Museum. While there’s always lots of good stuff to see at the Frye, is the closing weekend for “Love My Time, I Don’t Like My Time:  Recent Work by Erwin Wurm.”
The exhibit covers ten years of Wurm’s work, and is an exploration and discovery of the many different ways sculpture can take shape.  A variety of methodologies are tapped into, including performance, photography, installation, drawing, video and text.  Wurm focuses more on the process of making sculpture, rather than on the finished result, and in doing so …read more

Locate Free WiFi in the Greater Seattle Area

Locate Free WiFi in the Greater Seattle Area

If you refuse to pay for wifi at your hotel, this listing of free Seattle area wifi spots may come in handy.
The site appears to be updated regularly, and when I called some random locations to confirm, it also appears to be accurate.
I’d recommend printing out this information, and keeping with your laptop as a good reference guide.  Oh sure, I have it bookmarked as well, but that doesn’t do me any good when I don’t have an internet connection!

Burp & Belch Your Way Through Grossology

Burp & Belch Your Way Through Grossology

There were certain bodily functions that we were all taught should never be done in public, and, in fact, shouldn’t even be talked about.  This weekend all that changes, when the Pacific Science Center presents Grossology:  The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body.
The exhibit deals with all sorts of those unmentionable sounds, gasses, fluids, and functions of the human body.  You can become a dust particle and explore a nose, examine scabs and blisters, and learn about indigestion with the “Burp Machine.”  While it’s sure to elicit a chuckle or blush from adults, the kids will love it.  But not …read more

You’ll Find Something to Float Your Boat at the Seattle Boat Show, January 25th-February 3rd

You’ll Find Something to Float Your Boat at the Seattle Boat Show, January 25th-February 3rd

“The boat show, the boat show. . . . “
I remember when those words, set to a catchy little tune, were run on the radio to announce that the Seattle Boat Show was about to burst onto the scene.
I’m not sure how long ago those spots ran (showing my age, I guess), but the Seattle Boat Show is now in its 60th year.  It is the largest west coast boat show, and attracts visitors and participants from across the country.  Like all shows of this type, the Boat Show will have lots of give-aways and prizes, including a 20 foot …read more

“Fire Season” at Bluebottle Art thru January 30th

“Fire Season” at Bluebottle Art thru January 30th

As cold as it’s been in Seattle lately, here’s a chance to warm up at “Fire Season” by Paul Chatem, now on exhibit through the end of January at Bluebottle Art Galley.

Chatem combines painting with his story telling ability, interweaving multiple characters and story lines, with the occasional plot twist, into a series of paintings.  In “Fire Season,” Chatem depicts the dangerous and destructive forest fires of his Southern California home.  He actually painted this series while the fire ravaged outside his home.  You can see other work by Chatem here.
Bluebottle Art Gallery is owned and operated by Andrea and Matthew …read more
