Carnival of Cities – Last Call for Submissions

Carnival of Cities – Last Call for Submissions

We are slowly clicking toward the submission deadline for this week’s Carnival of Cities.
As this week’s host, I’m hoping for a BIG turn out, so if you have a city (or country, or area) focused post, submit your post by Sunday, April 1st and 2 pm (ET) for inclusion.  Any angle is fine, as long as it relates to a specific city, area, or town, although obviously spam and advertisements won’t be published.
The Carnival will be published on Monday, April 2nd — a great way to start off your week!

Do you want to bust out your finest duds, get all dressed up, and go howl at the moon?  I’ve got just the event for you – Tuxes & Tails 2007 – the annual fundraiser for the Seattle/King County Humane Society.
This year’s theme is “An Evening in Venice” and is already being called Seattle’s most “barked about” event.
The evening will feature a Celebrity and Pet Fashion Show, with over 40 local celebs with their own pet, or one available for adoption.  Other highlights of the evening include dinner, live entertainment, and both a silent and live auction.  If you’re itching …read more

March Poll Results

March Poll Results

It looks like it’s pretty much a toss up between those readers who live here and those who will be visiting soon.
That information will help keep me on the lookout for events that are happening in the here and now, rather than too far down the road.
I’ll get a poll up for April sometime next week, so check back and make your opinion heard.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Runs April 1st – 30th

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Runs April 1st – 30th

I grew up in the Skagit Valley, and sort of took all the tulip fields for granted.  At that time there wasn’t a festival, that’s only been around for 24 years, there were just farms, and dirt, and flowers.
Today, the Skagit Valley celebrates Tulips and Spring with its annual Tulip Festival, April 1st – 30th.  While those are the festival dates, the actual bloom date of the flowers is in the hands of Mother Nature.
Although there are a wide variety of events scheduled during the month, the real highlight of the festival are the fields of tulips.  Field after field, row …read more

Ride into Spring at the Snoqualmie Depot

Ride into Spring at the Snoqualmie Depot

I used to ride the train when I was a kid.  My parents would put my brother and I on the train and one station, and my grandparents would pick us up at another station.  It was well organized, and very easy, and I felt so grown up traveling alone.
When I learned to drive, the train became a thing of the past.
About 10 years ago, a group of people decided to attend a conference and travel by train from Tacoma to Eugene (Oregon).  There were about 15 of us, and it was great fun.  The seating area was spacious, with …read more

Seattle Men’s Chorus: That 80’s Show

If your decade was the 80’s, the Seattle Men’s Chorus is sure to have you dancing in the aisle with “That 80’s Show,” and music from Boy George, George Michael,  Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Stipe, and others.
This performance will feature a combination of a cappella choir (Aedonis, the classical ensemble of the choir) with a little comedic vaudeville (Captain Smartypants, part a cappella and part comedy improv troupe).
From edgy lyrics and synthetic beats to iconic music videos and films like Footloose and Flashdance, the men take on the era that dares to ask the question, “Do you wanna funk?”

“Stop Kiss” at Seattle Public Theater

“Stop Kiss” at Seattle Public Theater

What happens when a first kiss doesn’t result in a happy ending?
That’s the premise of Diana Son’s “Stop Kiss” now running at the Seattle Public Theater.  Challenging our assumptions about relationships, this production reminds us what a profound privilege it is to love and be loved.
The “kiss” in this play is not a happily-ever-after-kiss.  The kiss is between two women, and the tenderness and optimism of their first kiss is contrasted with the ugliness that surrounds it.  This story of this kiss will make you laugh — and it will make you cry.  Hopefully, it will also make you reflect.
If “Stop …read more
