Pioneer Square pergola

Details: The Pergola in Pioneer Square Park (at the triangular corner of Yesler Way and First Avenue) was originally constructed in 1909 as a shelter for passengers waiting for the cable car that ran along Yesler Way. It was built in a Victorian style, out of iron and glass, and was about 60 feet long and 16 feet high. It was restored in 1972, and designated a historic landmark in 1977. In January 2001, the Pergola was demolished by a truck that cut the corner a little too close and crashed into the building. The Pergola was carefully reconstructed, and stands again today. Today, the Pergola is once again a popular meeting point in the Pioneer Square area.
