Waterfall Garden – Pioneer Square’s Urban Oasis
With all the nice weather we’ve been having the last few days, I’m beginning to believe that summer may be here soon. Oh sure, the sun gets interrupted by a little rain, but for hearty Seattle-ites, that’s nothing to think twice about.
What’s been on my mind is finding a place to enjoy the outdoors, a calming respite in an otherwise busy life.
If you live, work, or are visiting the city core, spend an hour or two at Waterfall Garden in Pioneer Square. In the midst of the urban environment of Pioneer Square, you’ll find this secluded oasis of peace and beauty. It’s a popular spot for lunching, playing hooky from the office (although there are power outlets if you must bring along your work), or for a quiet, romantic conversation.
The concrete, wood, and water combine in a Zen-like water and rock garden, with a 22-foot waterfall that drowns out the traffic noises of Pioneer Square as it cascades into a Japanese pool.
Waterfall Garden was built with private funds, and opened in 1977. A plaque in the garden commemorates the United Parcel Service, which was started on the site.

Hours: Open 8 am – 6 pm
Fees: No charge
