Hanky Panky with Tommy James & the Shondells at Emerald Queen Casino

Hanky Panky with Tommy James & the Shondells at Emerald Queen Casino

This concert will take you back.  Back to the late 1960’s when bubble gum and rock and roll battled for play on the radio.  And back when Tommy James & the Shondells had two number one U.S. singles with “Hanky Panky” (1966) and “Crimson and Clover” (1968).
That’s 40 years ago!  These guys have been around for 40 years?  The band has been reconfigured over the years, but at the heart of it all, Tommy James has been making music for over 40 years.
One of the summer’s many retro-concerts at the Emerald Queen Casino (Tacoma), the venue is for the 21-and-over only …read more

Breakfast at Tiffany’s & a Movie at Lake Union

Breakfast at Tiffany’s & a Movie at Lake Union

Enjoy Breakfast at Tiffany’s beneath the stars with the summer’s first Cinema on the Lawn film.
Watch beautiful Audrey Hepburn as quirky, and deeply neurotic, Holly Golightly and she flit through life and love.  George Peppard plays her neighbor Paul Varjak, and the two of them ignite some very serious on-screen chemistry.  You’ll have to watch the movie to see if he gets the girl.
The 1961 movie was directed by Blake Edwards, and was based on a novel by Truman Capote.  Henry Mancini won two Oscars for his music:  “Moon River” for Original Song and Best Score of a Dramatic or …read more

b5media Travel & Culture Day: Talking Men

b5media Travel & Culture Day: Talking Men

Today is another edition of our b5media Travel & Culture Channel theme day!  Boy, that’s a mouthful — but what it’s all about is highlighting the best posts by our channel’s bloggers, all centered around one theme.
Today’s theme was Men.
That’s a pretty broad topic, and our bloggers all took a different approach with it.  They blogged about gadgets, things men would like to do, things they wished men would do, and even about the nature of men themselves.
You can read the round up This One’s for the Guys over at Flyaway Cafe.

Shop at Lush in Seattle & Bellevue

Shop at Lush in Seattle & Bellevue

Lush is a store that I discovered while traveling.  It was full of wonderful, nicely scented, responsibly made, bath and skin products.  The products are all natural, and there is no animal testing.  I loved that this was truly a business with a social conscious.
But the closest store was a couple hundred miles from home.  So I had to stock up on tons of products when I’d visit, because because I never knew when I’d get back to a store.  I don’t want to say that it became an obsession, but plenty of those purchases that I bought as gifts …read more

Biking Through the Carnival of Cities

Biking Through the Carnival of Cities

Another week for the Carnival of Cities, this week hosted by Liz Lewis at Christchurch.
There are lots of good posts to read this week, and, as usual, it took me awhile to get through them all.  But get through them I did.
My favorite post this week is from Mommy Poppins with her post:  Best Biking for Kids on Bucolic Governor’s Island.  I recently bought a new bike, and have been enjoying getting back into the habit, so Governor’s Island really captured my attention.  That’s the kind of place I’m looking to go for a ride!

Colossal Fossils at the Pacific Science Center

Hang out with the big guys — the dinosaurs who walked the earth millions of years ago — at “Colossal Fossils” now showing at the Pacific Science Center through January 6th, 2008.
Though long gone, these creatures continue to fascinate us.  What did they look like?  What did they eat?  How did they spend their days?  Theories abound, a this collection of fossils, skeletons, eggs and artifacts will help explain those theories to you.
And. like most exhibits at the Pacific Science Center, the learning is also a lot of fun!
As part of the dinosaur theme, Dinosaurs Alive! 3D, is showing at …read more

Lisa Harris Gallery at the Pike Place Market

Lisa Harris Gallery at the Pike Place Market

There are lots of artists stalls and art galleries in the Pike Place Market area, and one of my favorites is the Lisa Harris Gallery, located in a loft in the Soames Dunn Building, upstairs from the original Starbuck’s.  It’s the location as much as the art that makes it so enjoyable.
The gallery was founded in 1984, and represents contemporary Northwest and West Coast artists, both emerging artists and those a little further along in their careers.  Mediums include paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and photography.
Through June 30th, you can see a great exhibit of sculpture by local artist Ann Morris.  …read more

Still Tickets Left for Madeleine Peyroux at Chateau Ste Michelle

Tomorrow evening, Sunday, June 24th, one of my favorite singers is performing at one of my favorite venues — Madeleine Peyroux at the Chateau Ste Michelle Winery, as part of the 2007 Summer Concerts at the Chateau.
Bring a picnic, buy a bottle of wine and enjoy the music.  Food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted, so bring a picnic basket or cooler.  A selection of wines can be purchased onsite and the wine shop.  Alcoholic beverages, not purchased at the winery, are not permitted to be brought in — and they check.
