Khaled Hosseini Reads From A Thousand Splendid Suns
It’s been awhile since I read the book The Kite Runner, but I remember how terribly moved I was by it. It captured by interest from the very first page. It tells the story of an Afghan boy, told from his point of view, and the relationships he has with his family and friends.
Author Khaled Hosseini has written another book, and will be in Seattle to read from it. His second book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is set in the period of the Afghan civil war, the time of the rise of the Taliban, and the story follows the fates of two young women married to a brutal, much older man. Where his first book focuses on the relationship between men, this second one focuses on the relationship among women.
The reading will be in Town Hall, a community culture center on the edge of downtown, near the convention center. It plays host to a myriad of international, national, and local programming and performances, and is fully accessible. The building itself is a renovated church that dates back to 1922, and is a remarkable piece of architecture, most notably its two-story columns, central dome, and art glass.
Location: Town Hall, 8th & Seneca (enter on 8th Avenue). The reading will be held in the Great Hall.

Tickets: $5. Advanced tickets (highly recommended) are available at Elliott Bay Book Company. Parking at the nearby Washington State Convention and Trade Center Main Garage is available for $4 (evenings) with a voucher from Town Hall. Ask a Town Hall staffer for tahe voucher. Other pay lots are in the area.

“A Thousand Splendid Suns” sounds particularly interesting and I will have to watch to see if Khaled Hosseini will be coming to my city. Listening to a writer in action, should prove to be a very interesting evening.
These books sound like excellent reads.
It is unfortunate that Afghanistan has had such a tumultuous history and for years has been bogged down in civil and foreign wars.
We shouldn’t forget that the US supported the Taliban when they fought against the Soviet Union. That didn’t turn out so well for anybody.
