It is unfortunate that Afghanistan has had such a tumultuous history and for years has been bogged down in civil and foreign wars. We shouldn't forget that the US supported the Taliban when they fought against the Soviet Union. That didn't turn out so well for anybody. These books sound like excellent reads.
