Willard Smith Planetarium Helps You Keep Track of the Night Sky
The Willard Smith Planetarium is just one more good reason to visit the Pacific Science Center on the Seattle Center Campus. With the goal of inspiring a lifelong interest in the science of astronomy, the culture of astronomy and the experience of the night sky, the Planetarium makes learning about our bigger world out there fun and entertaining.
Currently, there are two visitor options at the Planetarium:
- Peek into the Planetarium on Saturday and Sunday at noon. It’s an open house, pre-schooler friendly, and is a quick way to learn a little bit about the sky above us. This is the only Planetarium program open to children under four years of age.
- The Star Show is a great opportunity to visit the night sky and learn about what you’re seeing. You’ll get a handy little star map, so you can use it as a reference when you get home. It’s fun to watch the sky change and the seasons progress.
There is also a feature focus following the Saturday and Sunday Star Show, giving you an opportunity to learn a little bit more about a rotating astronomy topic.
Location: Pacific Science Center, 200 Second Avenue North
Dates & Times: Peek into the Planetarium offered on Saturday and Sunday at noon. The Star Show is Monday – Friday at 3:15, and Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm. Seating is first come, first seated, and no late seating is permitted. Children under four years of age are not admitted to the planetarium, except for Peek into the Planetarium.
Admission: The Planetarium admission is covered as part of your admission to Pacific Science Center. Admission to the Science Center if $10 for adults, $8.50 for seniors, $7 children (ages 3 – 12), and under three, FREE.
Consider a Pacific Science Center membership if you’ll be going more than once a year. The value really pays off, and you can just pop in for special events.

A planetarium is a good way to begin to get to know the sky. Also, many planetaria team up with a local astronomy club that hosts public star parties. Those let you actually look through a telescope at a real sky.
