The Seahawks’ Qwest for Success

All my rowdy friends will be at Qwest Field for one Monday Night game this Seahawk NFL Season, in a game against the San Francisco 49-ers.

Of course, there’s a whole season in front of them, but are currently the favorite to win their division.  I’ve also heard some hushed voices speaker of. . . the Superbowl.  But first, there’s a lot of territory to get through.

Qwest Field is home to the Seahawks, with a seat capacity of 67,000 regular seats, 7,000 club seats, and 100 “Red Zone” field-level seats.  The noise factor of the stadium make it one of the ultimate home field advantages.  One of the things that help pack a whole lot of noise into the stadium is “The Wave,”   a fan initiated cheer that has the audience standing and waving their arms, proceeding around the stadium.

Seattle lays claim to originating “The Wave” at a 1981 University of Washington football game, with yell king Rob Weller (later a co-host of Entertainment Tonight) leading the cheer.  A week after its debut at Husky Stadium, “The Wave” made its appearance at a Seahawk game in the Kingdome, and it’s been a regular part of fan involvement ever since.*

Location:  800 Occidental Avenue South (map it)

Dates & Times:  The full season schedule can be found here.  The first regular season came is at home against Tampa Bay on September 9th.

Tickets:  Ticket prices range from $42-92, plus service charges, and are available Ticketmaster.  Sold out games may have standing room only tickets. Premium club seats and suites may also be available on an individual game basis.

Here’s a short tour of Qwest Field:

*While “The Wave” is frequently seen at other sporting events, long time Seattle residents know that it is truly a football cheer, and not meant for all these other sports and events that now try to lay claim to it.
