Meet Some of My Friends

Meet Some of My Friends

It’s my great pleasure to introduce you to three great friends, and three new destination blogs for the Travel & Culture Channel here at b5media.
One of the great things about writing for a blog network, is the chance to meet and work with so many interesting and fun people.  If you’ve got travel on your mind, you can’t go wrong making this your first stop for information.
Jed at The London Traveler blogs about this wonderful city and its environs.  From the typical, to the not-so-typical, he’ll convince you to put this city at the top of your must-see list.

I’m Sweet on Dilettante Chocolates

I’m Sweet on Dilettante Chocolates

I am, unapologetically, a chocolate lover.  While the occasional Snickers bar, or Reese’s peanut butter cup may satisfy a temporary pang, it’s the really good stuff — rich, creamy, totally decadent — that really gets me excited.
One of my favorite Seattle chocolatiers is Dilettante Chocolates.  Dilettante is a Seattle company, founded by third generation chocolatier Dana Taylor Davenport, and I remember when it opened on Capitol Hill back in the mid 1970’s.  At the time, it was one of the first specialty chocolate shops that I can remember, offering both eat-in and take-out candy and desserts.
The truffles are to die for, and …read more

Musicals for the 2007-08 5th Avenue Theater schedule

Musicals for the 2007-08 5th Avenue Theater schedule

I’ve written about several of the theater offerings around the Seattle area, and looking through the flyer for the 5th Avenue Theater’s 2007-08 season, it looks like another great season of theater is ahead of us.
Take a look at this line up:
Lone Star Love (runs through September 30th).  A riff on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Texas-style, this musical’s Broadway-bound plans have been delayed.
Into the Woods (October 19th – November 10th).  With a score by Stephen Sondheim, this is a magical trip into the woods where one encounters all sorts of fairy tale characters.
Whistle Down the Wind (November 13th …read more

Lots of Cars, Not So Many Parking Spots

Lots of Cars, Not So Many Parking Spots

After writing my post about parking earlier this week, I came across some additional information about Seattle-ites and their cars.
There are 314,722 licensed passenger vehicles in Seattle, along 10,718 licensed motorcycles, and 1,510 license mopeds.
There are 100,000 non-residential parking spaces in the downtown business core and surrounding neighborhoods.
Lots of people competing for not very many parking spaces.

Rant, Rant, Rant!

Rant, Rant, Rant!

Do you think that if you’ve heard one rant you’ve heard them all?
Well think again, as you read what the other b5media Travel & culture bloggers are ranting about.  Sherry at Geeky Traveller has gathered out posts and published a great synopsis of what we’re ranting about.
My participation was my rant about people believing that it rains all the time in Seattle.

Carnival of Cities is Hauntingly Good

Carnival of Cities is Hauntingly Good

I look forward to the Carnival of Cities every week.  While I’m enormously proud of where I live, I’m enormously curious about other cities around the world.  The weekly Carnival of Cities gives me the opportunity to brag on Seattle a bit, while still discovering bits and pieces of information about this big world where we all hang out.
This week’s Carnival was hosted by Grace at Sandier Pastures.  Grace is in Dubai, an adventure in itself, and rounded up some wonderful posts from around the world.
In keeping with what has become my custom, I’ve selected my favorite post of …read more
