I’m Sweet on Dilettante Chocolates

chocolates I am, unapologetically, a chocolate lover.  While the occasional Snickers bar, or Reese’s peanut butter cup may satisfy a temporary pang, it’s the really good stuff — rich, creamy, totally decadent — that really gets me excited.

One of my favorite Seattle chocolatiers is Dilettante ChocolatesDilettante is a Seattle company, founded by third generation chocolatier Dana Taylor Davenport, and I remember when it opened on Capitol Hill back in the mid 1970’s.  At the time, it was one of the first specialty chocolate shops that I can remember, offering both eat-in and take-out candy and desserts.

The truffles are to die for, and with a big, bold, red wine, make a wonderful dessert.

Dilettante chocolates For quite awhile now, I’ve also been a big fan of the Fruit Dragees, and my favorite is the Bing Cherries in milk chocolate.

Dragee is a French term which comes from the word “to dredge”, describing the action of the revolving pans that coat our dried fruits and nuts with chocolate. They are the connoisseur’s ultimate snack food

The Chocolate Bing cherries are $12 for a 24 ounce pouch, and available at various stores as well as online.

The company has branched out and now carries a variety of different chocolates, specialty food items and coffee, and operates Mocha Cafes around the area.

Locations:  Dilettante stores are located around the greater Seattle area, and include Broadway (Capitol Hill), Cherry Street, Pike Place Market, Kent Station, Rainier Square, Bellevue, Westlake Mall, and Sea-Tac International Airport.

Dilettante products are also available online, and at a variety of other fine specialty stores.
