Seattle Public Theater presents two holiday performances, from opposite ends of the holiday spectrum, for audiences of all ages, and attitudes about the holidays, to enjoy.

Rainier Chorale Offers "New Beginnings at Christmas"

The Rainier Chorale celebrates the its 25th anniversary and is offers up its Christmas program, "New Beginnings at Christmas."  The program will offer a few classical pieces, a new interpretation of the Ave Maria, as well as some holiday standards.
Joining the Chorale with be the Rainier Youth Choirs, three youth choruses sponsored by the Chorale.  The youth choruses were formed this year to help young people learn and become experience with choral music, and this holiday concert marks the first performance for them.

Sugar Plum Dreams at Meeker Mansion

Sugar Plum Dreams will be decorating the Victorian Meeker Mansion in its annual Christmas Open House.
Docents will conduct tours of the 17 room Mansion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites, including the ballroom, “widows walk,” six fireplaces with European mantels, hand-stenciled ceiling artwork, elegant woodwork and stained glass.
Cookies and hot apple cider are provided at the end of the tour.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town. . . Friday

The day following Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday, and is the traditional first day of the holiday shopping season.  This tradition seems to be dropping off over the years, and this year I saw holiday decorations up around Halloween time.  And that is just wrong!
Still, Seattle’s day long celebration of the holiday season kicks off Friday, November 23rd, with the Macy’s Day-After Thanksgiving Parade, starting at 7th Avenue & Pine, and zig-zagging its way to the Macy’s Store on 4th Avenue.  The parade begins at 8:45 am, and will be broadcast in KING-TV (Channel 5) at 9 am.

AIDS Memorial Quilt on Display in Tacoma

In partnership with the Tacoma Art Museum, the Pierce County AIDS Foundation will host a display of 12 foot by 12 foots sections of The AIDS Memorial Quilt.  The display is part of a global commemoration of world AIDS Day, December 1st.
Quilt panels honoring local residents will be on display, including the late State Senator Cal Anderson, our state’s first openly gay legislator (photo above).
