Banned Books & Booze in a Tempest
I’ll have a cocktail with my book discussion, thank you very much.
That’s the idea behind two monthly literary nights at Tacoma’s Tempest Lounge, coordinated with the local King’s Books.
On the first Tuesday of the month is the Book Slut Social. There’s no requirement to read any particular book for this book social. It’s about discussing books in general. Talk about what you’ve read, what you want to read, and your favorite authors and themes. Bring a book to trade, and try something new. And in preparation for the Banned Book Club, you may want to try the Banned Author Cocktail that debuts every social.
The next Book Slut Social will be March 44h.
On the third Tuesday of the month is the Banned Book Club. Join with other rebellious readers in discovering both newly banned, and the traditionally banned, works of literature. (The banned book for February is The God Box by Alex Sanchez, which deals with two gay teens struggling with conflicting issues of sexuality and religion.) The discussion is designed to not only discuss the merits of the chosen book, but to continue to probe the censorship issue.
The next Banned Book Club meets Tuesday, February 19th.
Location: 913 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma (map it)
Date & Time: First (Book Slut Social) and Third (Banned Book Club) Tuesday of each month, 7 pm.
Admission: No charge to attend, but be considerate and order drinks and/or appetizers.
Tempest Lounge is 21 and over only.
