10 Simple Earth Day Choices to Help Save the Planet

Earth Sometimes it seems like saving and protecting the planet is a daunting task.  When I look at the harmful things that we do to this world, I feel overwhelmed, like there is nothing that I can do that will make a difference.

That’s why I love Earth Day.  It reminds me that each of us is responsible for protecting this earth, and that the small steps we take here and there will add up to making a big difference.

Here are 10 simple things that you can do to protect the environment and make the world a little better place to live.  None of them are expensive or difficult, it’s just about forming some new habits.

  1. Carpool to work, or use public transportation.  Better yet, walk or bicycle.
  2. Reduce the amount you drive by 10 percent.  Combine errands, eliminate unnecessary trips, walk or bike.
  3. Stop smoking.
  4. Recycle and compost.
  5. Carry your groceries in a reusable canvas bag.
  6. Frequent farmer’s markets and buy locally raised food.
  7. Patronize businesses that use environmentally friendly practices.
  8. Plant a tree or some flowers.
  9. Put up a bird feeder in your yard.
  10. Organize or participate in a neighborhood clean up effort.

What other simple things can we do to celebrate and honor our planet?  What are you going to do?

Happy Earth Day!

    Thanks Peter.

A friend asked if I truly followed the things on my list, and I answered with a big YES!

These are little things, I know, but if we make these simple things a habit, we can move on to others.
