Spend Only 100 Yen at Daiso
After reading Shane’s post about the 100 yen shops in Tokyo, I wondered if we had any in the Seattle area. After all, we have a very large Asian population, and it seemed possible that we might have these stores locally as well.
Sure enough, Daiso has four stores in Western Washington, three in the greater Seattle area!
The 100-yen shops are similar to our dollar stores, and are commonly known as “hyakkin.” Daiso is a leading player in the industry, with products including dishes, food, serving ware, cosmetics, gardening items, sourveniers, home decor, and arts and crafts items.
And, because a 100-yen doesn’t buy what it used to, you’ll find a few product priced over that price point.
Locations: Alderwood Mall (3000 184th Street SW, Suite 398, Lynnwood); The Commons (Space #D-12, 2013 South Commons, Federal Way); Westlake Center (400 Pine Street, Suite 1005, Seattle); Bellis Fair Mall (One Fair Parkway #618, Bellingham)
Store Hours: Vary by location, and dependent on overall mall hours.
Prices: Most items in the store are priced at $1.50, and top out at around $9.
I think I’ll head off to the Westlake Center location tomorrow!

Vancouver has Yoko Yaya – a $1, $2 and $3 shop. I really have to be carefull in there – even at nothing more than 3 bucks, things still add up!
Have fun Mary Jo but hold on to your wallet – there is a lot of neat stuff at Daiso!
I used to work next door to Westlake Center and sometimes visited Daiso on my lunch break. It was just about the best thing ever. The Alderwood Mall location is pretty nice too. It may have changed, but at the time the Alderwood store had more English labels, but half the fun in going was trying to figure out the purpose of the more unfamiliar items.
That store sounds really cool, I have never been to one but I will have to check it out.
There’s some really great stuff in these stores. And you need to be very careful. While each individual item is reasonably priced, when I totaled up ALL of those items it was a bit of a surprise.
Still, I got some great stuff and am pleased with all my purchases.
