Green Fridays in Belltown

Green Fridays in Belltown

The greening of Seattle just got a little easier – and cheaper – with the launch of Green Fridays.
The program was launched this summer by Belltown architects Velocipede, and they offer free green consultations for builders, designers, home owners, residents – anyone interested in living in a way consistent with good environmental stewardship  Even if you are a renter, there may be adaptations that you can make to your living space that can make a difference.
What kind of questions can they field?
Here are a few examples of topics:  fuel efficiency for heating, recycled countertops, low-flow toilets, air …read more

Seattle Children’s Theatre 2008-09 Line Up

Seattle Children’s Theatre 2008-09 Line Up

A 2008 study by the Americans for the Arts found that Seattle has the most artist-related business (per capita) in the entire U.S.  To those of us who live here, this comes as no surprise, but if you haven’t been to Seattle recently, you’ve got an amazing assortment to choose from.
And let’s not forget that there’s much in the way of arts to offer the children of the community as well.
Seattle Children’s Theatre has a great line up of performances for its 2008-09 season:

Bluenose – October 17th – December 14h.  A pirate story with an underlying message of tolerance …read more

Fashionable Fall Shopping at H&M

Fashionable Fall Shopping at H&M

The rain of the last few days has me digging in my closet for sweaters and long sleeved clothes.  I have some warn things in the closet, but if your closet is looking a little sparse, there’s a new place in town where you can put together a fashionable, yet reasonably priced, wardrobe.
The iconic H&M, started in Sweden in 1947, opened its third store in the Seattle area last week.  Now that the rush of opening weekend has died down, it’s a good time to visit.
With fashionable collections for men, women, teens, and kids, H&M features international designs that …read more

This Weekend. . . Last Chance at Swanson’s Fall Sale

This weekend. . .
. . . cover those garden bare spots with a selection from Swanson’s annual fall sale.
Swanson’s always has a great selection for Seattle gardeners, and this is the last weekend to get deep discounts at their fall sale.  Trees, shrubs, and vines (including azaleas, flowering shrubs, and rhododendrons) are 40% off, and perennials, herbs and ground cover  are 25% off.  You’ll also find discounts on containers and compost.  New inventory gets brought in throughout the sale, so there is still a lot to choose from.

There’s No Place Like Home/Seattle

There’s No Place Like Home/Seattle

Sometimes you have to leave Seattle before you can really appreciate it.
I’m just home from spending the better part of five days in Las Vegas.  I had a great time learning lots of new stuff at BlogWorld Expo, and meeting and re-meeting lots of friends.
Still, as Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz, “there’s no place like home.”
More Seattle news, tips, ideas and suggestions to come just as soon as I’m all caught up!

New York Las Vegas Getaway Weekend

New York Las Vegas Getaway Weekend

New York is a little too far for a quick getaway weekend, because from Seattle it will take you the better part of a day to get there, and then again to get back.
But if you don’t mind a faux NYC experience, you might want to try a Las Vegas weekend at New York New York Hotel & Casino.
Sure, it’s not the big Apple, but you can see the architecture and attractions of the city (and NO, they aren’t as good as seeing the real thing – just closer), and eat at famous, and often overpriced restaurants, all …read more

This event is one of the premiere gatherings of the blogging industry – and the attendees are a veritable Who’s Who of new media.  The trade show floor is packed full of the latest and greatest tools in the industry, and the educational sessions are packed full of tips and ideas.
