Place Pigalle Autumn Dinner Special
One of my favorite Seattle restaurants, Place Pigalle in the Pike Place Market, is having a great fall dinner promotion. It’s offering a special Autumn Prix Fixe Menu running for 35 days for a cost of $35/person ($50 with wine pairing added).
The special offers choices for each course, allowing you to pick your favorite or try something new.
- First course: Oysters on the half shell with pomegranate mignonette or Duck confit raviolo, flageolet beans and sage jus.
- Second Course: Grilled radicchio salad with prosciutto, taleggio cheese and a balsamic reduction or Roasted beet salad with baby arugula and chevre de boucheron.
- Third Course: Fresh diver scallops with beluga lentils, smoked bacon vinaigrette and shaved fennel salad or Coriander encrusted pork tenderloin with Yakima apple and fall squash hash and Calvado jus.
- Dessert Course: Pot de Creme au chocolat, or creme brulee, or cherry and pecan torte.
Place Pigalle has a colorful history, tracing its roots back to the day when it was the local watering hole for the bordello located above it. Back then it was known as the Lotus Inn.
Sometime in the 1950’s, the bar was renamed Place Pigalle – still keeping with the bordello theme, and naming it after the famous red-light district in Paris. It attracted a rough crowd, although the bordello had gone out of business, and it was not uncommon for bottles and other items to be thrown out of the window.
In the 1960’s the bar was nicknamed Pig Alley and played jazz on a jukebox, and in the 1970’s it was a "hippie” bar with occasional live music. Finally finding itself in 1982, Place Pigalle went through a remodel and birthed its new image.
The Place Pigalle menu is held in high regard by the foodies among us, and it features lots of local specialities. Interesting enough, some of the items have been on the menu since its inception – including my personal favorite the Mussels Pigalle.
The Mussels Pigalle are steamed and served in an oval baking dish with lots of bacon, celery, shallots, and a balsamic vinaigrette. You’ll want the bread to dip in the delicious sauce at the bottom of the baking dish. You’ll find the mussels on the lunch menu as a specialty item and on the dinner menu as an appetizer ($14).
Jeremy Wright, b5media’s CEO, and I lunched at Place Pigalle this past summer and we both chose and enjoyed the mussels. They’re delicious! Add a salad, save room for dessert, and it’s a perfect meal!
Location: 81 Pike Street in the Pike Place Market (map it)
Dates: 35 days, starting Monday, November 10th and ending Saturday December 13th.
Price: $35 per person, $50 with wine pairing
If you haven’t had a chance to try Place Pigalle yet, this special offers you a great opportunity to fine a top class restaurant at a decent price. And try the cherry and pecan torte, my favorite dessert.
