The Seattle Traveler

A Kubrick Film Festival

by Mary Jo on August 24th, 2007

Stanley Kubrick self portrait Independent, influential, and controversial.  Three words that sum up film director and producer, Stanley Kubrick.  Critics and fan alike are polarized about him — love his work, hate his work — everyone seems to have an opinion.

Kubrick started out as a still photographer for Look magazine, and later moved into documentaries, before beginning work on feature films.

His diverse body of work includes:

  • 2001:  A Space Odyssey
  • Dr. Strangelove or:  How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
  • Barry Lyndon
  • Lolita
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • The Shining
  • Full Metal Jacket
  • Eyes Wide Shut
  • Spartacus

The Seattle International Film Festival presents Kubrick’s works in a 10-day film festival, beginning Friday August 24th.  Dr. Strangelove has always been one of my favorite Kubrick films, and I think I may try to catch a couple that I haven’t seen.

Location:  SIFF Cinema, McCaw Hall, 321 Mercer Street (map it), Seattle Center Campus

Dates & Times:  Friday, August 24th - Thursday, September 6th.  No screenings over Labor Day Weekend.  Find the full schedule of screenings here.

Tickets:  $7-10, available online, or at the box office (206)464-5830.

Ring in with your opinion on Kubrick’s films.  Do you have a favorite?  Love his work or hate his work?
