A Little Taste of The Grape

by User ImageMary Jo on February 20th, 2007

Taste of Walla Walla - wine tasting in SeattleThe Taste of Walla Walla wine tasting rolls into Seattle on Monday, March 12th, giving me an opportunity to support one of my favorite causes (FareStart) and to drink one of my favorite beverages (red wine).  How can you go wrong with a combination like that?!

The Walla Walla Valley, home to more than 60 wineries and vineyards, has favorable climate, soil, and conditions to have produced some nationally and internationally acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.  Other grape varieties coming from the Walla Walla Valley include Chardonnay, Semillon, Cabernet Franc, and Sangiovese.

Chalk it up to the northerly latitude, and the long days of sunshine, balanced with colder nights.  It is, evidently, just what the grapes need to develop their flavor and complexity.  All good things that go into the making of wine.

Although a trip to Walla Walla gives you the full experience of the beautiful valley, the historic architecture, and feel of community, you can have a small taste of that experience at the Taste of Walla Walla.  You can sample wines from over 40 wineries, meet and mingle with the winemakers, learn about wines and discover what you like best, AND, this may be the best part – support the wonderful efforts of FareStart.
