A Month of Local Festivals & Fairs: June
It’s summertime, and it seems that you can’t turn around without finding a summer festival or fair of some sort. Some are long running festivals that have been a part of our landscape for years. There are also a few new comers that look like they have a lot of potential. And, of course, it wouldn’t be Seattle without a couple of quirky ones as well.
I’ve gathered information about many of the area’s festival celebrated during the month of June, so you can get these day on your calendar. I will still highlight some of the larger events in additional posts, but there are lot of fun smaller events that are worth your time as well.
Start planning!
May 31-June 10: Portland Rose Festival. Just a few hours down the freeway to Portland and you can celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rose Festival. It’s not quite the extravaganza of Pasadena, but it’s a very close second!
June 1-3: Point Defiance Flower & Garden Show at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.
June 2: Maritime Gig Festival in Gig Harbor.
June 2-3: Pike Place Market Street Festival at the Market.
June 2-3: Georgetown Music Fest. Music, music, music.
June 9-10: Pagdiriwang at the Seattle Center. A celebration of Philippine film, dance, drama, fashion and food. I’m told that this is a traditional festival, but I’m going to check with my friends at Filipina Soul to find out.
June 14-17: Strawberry Festival at Comford Park, Marysville. The strawberry shortcake is still the big draw!
June 15-17: Edmonds Art Festival. It’s 50th anniversary!
June 16-17: Washington Brewers Festival. Beer & Fathers Day weekend, but still a family friendly event.
June 16-17: Fremont Fair in downtown Fremont. An annual celebration of the solstice, the arts, and also a fund raiser in the People’s Republic of Fremont.
June 16-17: Olympia Air Show at the Olympia Regional Airport. Lots of aerial demonstrations, fly-ins, and cool stuff up in the air.
June 23: Long Beach Peninsula Doggie Olympics at Bolstad Beach. Whimsical competition for pooches and masters. As if you need an excuse to go to the ocean.
June 23-24: Shoreline Arts Festival. Lots of participatory events for children and adults.
June 29-July 1: Taste of Tacoma at Point Defiance Park.
June 30-July 4: Wooden Boat Festival on Lake Union. Visiting boats and toy boat building appeal to the child in all of us.
I’ll get information posted about other festivals and fairs for the rest of the summer in the coming weeks.
