America at a Crossroads: Seattle Library, Central Branch, March 22nd
I just heard about a special program at Seattle’s Central Library (1000 Fourth Avenue), and regret that I’ll be out of town and unable to attend.
If you have Thursday evening, March 22nd free, you may be interested in attending a special screening of “Faith Without Fear” and “Operation Homecoming.”
Both films are a part of a PBS Special Series, set to air next month, titled America at a Crossroads. The series, hosted by Robert MacNeil, explores the challenges of the post-9/11 world, including conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, America’s role in the war, and more. Consisting of 11 independent documentaries, the series starts on Sunday, April 15th, and runs nightly through Friday, April 20th.
Operation Homecoming explores the account of military operations through the eyes and writings of American soldiers. These firsthand experiences, and firsthand emotions, are told through poetry, fiction, memoir, letters, journals and essays.
Faith Without Fear chronicles the journey of Irshad Manji, as she tries to reconcile her Muslim faith with her love of freedom.
The Seattle screening will also include a discussion with some of the film principals: Ed Hrivnak, retired from the Air Force, and Jack Lewis, retired from the Army, who are authors featured in Operation Homecoming, and Irshad Manji, author of Faith Without Fear.
Location: Seattle Public Library, Central Branch, Microsoft Auditorium. 1000 Fourth Avenue (downtown).
Day & Time: Thursday, March 22nd, 6 – 8 pm.
It should be an emotional evening, and I regret that I’ll miss it. I’ll be programming the series into my Tivo so that I won’t miss it when it airs next month. Take a look at this video and see what you think.

Wow, that is pretty powerful imagery. I can’t even begin to imagine the responsibility and split second decisions that must be made when in combat.
Did anyone make it to the screenings? I have read about the series and seen several of the previews online. I will also be programming my tivo to catch all 11 hours.
Here are the rest of the clips from the series (not just from Faith Without Fear and Operation Homecoming) for anyone who wants to watch.

Hi Jake, I’m glad you took the time leave a comment.
I’ve done a lot of rading about the series as well, and regret that I won’t be able to watch it in “real time.” I’m sure it will be generating lots of great discussions.
Oh well, that’s why I love my Tivo!
Please stop by again!
