Riding the Rails: The Seattle Monorail

Seattle is a city of cars. We love our cars, and it’s very hard for us to give them up. Perhaps because of that fact, or maybe just because we’re just starting to develop our urban roots, our public transportation systems are, well, substantially lacking.
The city does not have light rail (yet), a subway system, […]

Cherry Blossoms are in Bloom

Washington DC is not the only city that gets to boast about its Cherry Blossom Festival — Seattle has an impressive one as well.
If you’ve taken a look lately, you’ll already have seen the blooms.
The tradition of cherry blossom gazing is called “hanami,” and is deeply steeped in Japanese culture. As Japanese people began immigrating to […]

Carnival of Cities - April 2nd - Hosted by The Seattle Traveler

Welcome to the April 2, 2007 edition of Carnival of Cities. It was my pleasure to host the carnival here at The Seattle Traveler this week, and it’s been a lot of fun. Of course, with great writers like we have here, it’s also easy!

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Runs April 1st - 30th

I grew up in the Skagit Valley, and sort of took all the tulip fields for granted.  At that time there wasn’t a festival, that’s only been around for 24 years, there were just farms, and dirt, and flowers.
Today, the Skagit Valley celebrates Tulips and Spring with its annual Tulip Festival, April 1st – 30th.  […]

Photo Op: Seattle’s Famous Pike Place Market

Location:  Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market, located at the foot of Pike Street (First & Pike).  This time of year, you can go during the week and avoid much of the crowds.  During the summer it’s jammed with people, no matter the day or time.  At the market, you’ll find great produce, meats, fish, and handicrafts […]

Great Views of Seattle From The Smith Tower Observation Deck

One of the best ways to get a good view of the city is from the observation deck of the Smith Tower.
The building of the Smith Tower was revolutionary in many ways.  Around its steel framework was wrapped a white ornamental terra cotta.  This product is so dirt resistant that the building exterior has only […]

Year Round Fun at Alki Beach

One of the best things about Alki Beach in West Seattle is that although it is a popular tourist spot, it is even more popular as a place for locals to hang out.  So whether you’re visiting, or live here, it has something for everyone, and is a place you’ll want to check out.
In November […]
