Create Your Own "House" Brew
I’m a beer snob! It’s not that I don’t like the taste of most beers — it’s just that I think most beers have no taste.
My palate was ripe for microbrews when they finally came along.
Now I’ve found an opportunity to both discover and create ultimate microbrew — my own “house brew” if you will.
Gallagher’s provides a do-it-yourself environment where you can replicate your favorite commercial brew, or let your imagination run wild and try to create something new of your very own.
Gallagher’s is popular not only with the die-hard beer enthusiasts, but is also developing a reputation as a fun place for private parties. A few business have even used in for the de rigueur off-site team building. Beer. Now that’s a great morale building exercise!
The process takes about two hours, and involves measuring, pouring, stirring and cooking. You use state of the art Copper Kettles for the brewing, just like those used in the finest microbreweries. Your mix then ferments for two weeks until you return to bottle it or pour it into a keg, using a professional bottle sterilization process. Allow an hour for the return bottling visit.
A full batch of beer is 12 1/2 gallons, which makes about 132 - 12 ounce bottles. Half batches may be available if you work it out in advance. Properly stored in a cook, dark place, your beer will keep three to six months.
Gallagher’s is also set up for bottling cider and root beer. Yummmmm, home made root beer reminds me of my childhood when my grandfather would make root beer.
Location: 120 Fifth Avenue South, Edmonds (map it)
Hours: Tuesday - Friday 2-8 pm; 10 am - 5 pm, Saturdays; Sundays by appointment only. Closed on Mondays.
Prices: Based on the type of beer you select. Bottles, kegs, and growlers are additional. You can bring your own or purchase them at Gallagher’s. Cider is available for $65 for a batch (approximately 65 bottles) and root beer is available for $35 a batch (approximately 48 bottles).
Call Gallagher’s directly to schedule a brewing appointment or to set up a private party, (425) 776-4209.
Bottoms Up!

What a neat idea! My husband and I brew a batch of beer at home once every few months (it started out as his hobby but I find it interesting too) but the sanitizing and cleaning is a drag - I need to see if I can find anything like that here!

The folks at Gallagher’s say that a lot of home brew folks do their brewing there, as they hae industrial grade equipment. And someone else to sterilize and clean up after!
