Don’t Be a HOV Lane Violator

by Mary Jo on April 1st, 2008

HOV sign Have you noticed how empty our freeway HOV lanes are?  Been tempted to speed up your commute by using them — even though it’s just you in the car?  Maybe you even done it, figuring odds were on your side and that you wouldn’t get caught?

Get caught and you’re looking at a moving violation that will set you back $124, the bulk of which goes to support traffic safety programs.

While it’s hard to know how many driver disregard the restrictions of the HOV lanes, over 10,000 tickets were issued for this violation in 2006, including some creative drivers who counted a mannequin or dummy as a second passenger in the vehicle.
