Find Your Grail in Spamalot

by Mary Jo on October 26th, 2007

Spamalot-03 Last night I saw Monty Python’s Spamalot at the Paramount Theater, and if you haven’t finalized your plans for the weekend, I recommend that you move this to the top of your list.

I’m not a huge Monty Python fan (translation:  I can’t repeat all the lines of the movie), so I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to follow along and appreciate this “lovingly ripped off” story based on the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  I needn’t have worried, as the performance provided plenty of laughs and entertainment to engage the audience – even if you had never heard of Monty Python.

Winner of three 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Director for Mike Nichols, the story is a re-telling of the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and their quest for the Holy Grail.  In this version of history, however, there are dancing knights and maidens, killer rabbits, Laker Girls, and instructions directly from God.

The search for the Grail is filled with riotous and topical comedy, and at times I was laughing so hard that I was afraid I’d miss the next witty line.  And when is the last time you ended your theater experience with a group sing?

Dates & Times:  Spamalot runs through Sunday, October 28th, with performances Friday at 8 pm, Saturday at 2 and 8 pm, and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 pm.

Tickets:  Available online.  There probably will not be a huge selection or price ranges available.   Get what you can and just GO!

As for me?  I’m running out to get Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian.
