Get Crabby in Port Angeles
All community festivals are NOT created equal, but the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival joins the Penn Cove Mussel Festival at the very top of my list.
The Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival is Port Angeles’ annual celebration of seafood, and, more specifically, that wonderful crustacean, the Dungeness Crab. Dungeness crab average six to seven inches across the back, and are the sweetest of all the crabs. The crab gets its name from the town of Dungeness, located near Sequim, where they were first commercially harvested. In addition to Washington State, Dungeness crabs are also found in the waters of Alaska.
While the festival features lots of fun and games (entertainment, crab derby, winery tours, demonstrations and exhibits), the big draw to this event is the crab feed.
The crab feed features whole fresh-caught Dungeness crab — crab, that hours before was living free in the waters off of Port Angeles. The crab feed is offered all day long, on both Saturday and Sunday. And it is DELICIOUS!
Location: Port Angeles City Pier, and the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles, corner of Highway 101 (Front Street) and Lincoln Avenue (map it).
Date & Times: October 13-14th, Saturday 10 am - 7:30 pm; Sunday 10 am - 5 pm.
Admission: Most events are free. The crab feed is $22. Coupons are available that bring the cost down to $19.
Parking: Plentiful and free.
Other seafood makes an appearance at the Festival, but for me — it’s all about the crab!

Yum, we don’t get many Dungeness crabs on the East Coast but I still love em.

Dungeness crab is really the best that I’ve tasted. Alaska King may be more impressive looking, but it’s not as tasty.
Haven’t tried the crab back your way, though.
