Hey Doll Face!

Dolls of the Silver Screen

Seattle resident and artist Sara Lanzillotta is proof that you don’t have to give up dolls just because you’ve grown up. She’s made a career of playing with dolls, and as the owner and creator of Devout Dolls, continues her passion by making fabric sculpture dolls.

While you can find Sara’s dolls at stores across the country, craft fairs and at her website, now you have an additional option — you can catch an exhibit of her dolls, including many custom designs at “Dolls of the Silver Screen.” There are Goth girl dolls, alongside monsters, and adorable little fuzzy animals. And they are meant to be played with, not to just sit upon a shelf. It’s an eclectic mix, and — simply put — fun!

Every doll, monster, animal, etc., is completely handcrafted by Sara, and is one-of-a-kind. The website offers many designs that are for sale, and shows the very wide array of dolls that Sara offers. All items are made to order, and take about two weeks to make.

I’m partial to Marilyn Monroe ($130), the Ringleader, and for some odd reason, the two-headed gnome.

But to get the full appreciation of the art and quirkiness of these dolls, stop by Joe Bar and see the full exhibit. While dolls may have changed a lot since I was a girl, they don’t have to be any less fun. Sara’s work seems to prove that point.
