Hike Up Rattlesnake Ridge

by Mary Jo on August 28th, 2007

Rattlesnake Lake If you don’t have all day for a hike, but still want to have a little pay off at the end of the trip, the four mile Rattlesnake Ridge trail is a perfect choice.

It’s a moderate climb, perfect for beginners, but also enjoyable enough for experienced hikers.  Along the trail you’ll run into hikers of all ages, families, and dogs.  No bikes or horses are allowed on the trail.

Depending on your pace, it’s should be about a two mile trek, one hour each way.  Of course, if you bring a camera along, expect it to take much longer, as you’ll want to stop frequently to take photos of some pretty amazing views.  Bring some food and water in your pack and have a picnic at the top.

Rattlesnake Ridge is located near North Bend, about a 45 minute drive from Seattle, at the intersection of SR-19 and I-90.  A random assortment of trails and logging roads make up the trail between the Snoqualmie Point Trailhead (exit 27 on I-90) and the Rattlesnake Lake Trailhead (exit 32 on I-90).

In the photo you’ll see Rattlesnake Lake in the foreground, with Rattlesnake Ridge behind.

Location/Directions:  The more popular trailhead is at the eastern entrance to the park.  East on I-90 to Exit 32.  Turn right off the exit and follow signs to Rattlesnake Lake.

If the area looks familiar, you may have seen in it exterior shots of the television series Twin Peaks, which was shot in North Bend.  And while I’ve never seen a rattlesnake on Rattlesnake Ridge, I know they are out there!
