My librarian can take your librarian any old day!
Even the New York Times agrees with me, because my librarian is Nancy Pearl! This woman is the rock star of librarians, and even has her own action figure!
Ms Pearl took a librarianship position in Seattle in 1993, after working in Detroit and Tulsa as a librarian and bookseller. In 1998 she developed the program “If All of Seattle Read the Same Book,” a concept that eventually spread across the country. All of a sudden it was hip to read, and people got excited about books once again.
Since that time she has carved out a niche for herself as an author and speaker, continuing to excite people about reading. I like her non-pretentious approach to reading, and she recommends a broad variety of books, not just high brow literary works. Reading through her list you’re bound to find something that you’ll like. If you’re in a book club, her guide to book discussions, groups, and selecting a book will steer you toward a productive experience.
Ms Pearl has a monthly local television program, Book Lust with Nancy Pearl, patterned after her book on that same topic. You can also find her podcast on iTunes.
Her books include Book Lust, More Book Lust, and Book Crush (for kids and teens).
Reading really is fun, thanks in large part to Nancy Pearl.

I’ve seen that series and have been wanting to pick up a copy for a while now.

The books are great — and she covers a lot of territory. Take a browse through one, and you’ll probably wind up taking it home with you.
