Pacific Northwest Ballet Performs Swan Lake

by Mary Jo on February 5th, 2007

swan-lake.jpgThis is the last week to see Swan Lake, performed by the Pacific Northwest Ballet.  And, just in case you didn’t plan in advance – you’re in luck – tickets are still available!

Swan Lake is the ultimate “soap opera” of the ballet world, with its plot of romance and betrayal, with a little sorcery thrown in for good measure.

Tchaikovsky - Swan Lake / American Ballet Theatre, Murphy, CorellaThe ballet, with music by Tchaikovsky, is based on an ancient German legend, and tells the story of Odette, a princess that is turned into a swan by an evil curse.  Only the oath of true love can set her free, and she finds that love in Prince Siegfried.  Meanwhile, back at the Palace, the Temptress Odile is trying to snare the Prince.  The Prince, thinking Odile is really Odette, proclaims his love and vows to marry her.  You can probably see where this is heading.  The ending has been changed over they years, depending on the ballet company, but it’s never a happy ending for Odette.

Location:  McCaw Hall, 321 M Mercer Street, (near the Seattle Center).  Parking is available at the Mercer Garage, directly across the street, or a various private parking lots throughout the area.
