Park It!

by Mary Jo on September 17th, 2007

parking meter If you’ll be driving a car in Seattle, you’ll need to be prepared for parking expenses.  While free on-street parking is possible, it’s growing increasingly harder to find, and during peak commute times, many streets prohibit parking altogether.

Metered parking, where available, is metered Monday - Friday, 8 am - 6 pm, at a cost of $1.50 hour, broken down into increments of 10 minutes for 25 cents.

Additionally, the downtown area still has a fair number of off-street parking lots and parking garages.  Parking rates at these sites range from about $3-10 per hour, and about $10-30 per day.  Rates depend on location and time of arrival, in addition to length of time parked.

While not as expensive as parking in some cities, if your visiting Seattle the price of parking should be factored into your travel budget.  You may find that it is cheaper to take an airport shuttle to your downtown hotel, and then rely on walking, public transportation, and the occasional cab ride.
