Seattle Children’s Theatre 2008-09 Line Up
A 2008 study by the Americans for the Arts found that Seattle has the most artist-related business (per capita) in the entire U.S. To those of us who live here, this comes as no surprise, but if you haven’t been to Seattle recently, you’ve got an amazing assortment to choose from.
And let’s not forget that there’s much in the way of arts to offer the children of the community as well.
Seattle Children’s Theatre has a great line up of performances for its 2008-09 season:
- Bluenose – October 17th – December 14h. A pirate story with an underlying message of tolerance and acceptance. Recommended for ages 6 and over (1st grade).
- The Wizard of Oz – November 21st – January 17th. The classic story of life over the rainbow. Recommended for ages 6 and over (1st grade).
- Tomas and the Library Lady – January 9th – March 1st. A non-English speaking boy finds refuge in the library. Based on true story. Recommended for ages 7 and over (2nd grade).
- Pharaoah Serket and the Last Stone of Fire – January 30th – March 7th. An adventure story set in ancient Egypt. Recommended for ages 8 and over (3rd grade).
- A Tale of Two Cities – March 20th – April 12th. The Dickens classic about the French Revolution. “It is a far, far better thing I do. . . .” Recommended for ages 11 and over (6th grade).
- Goodnight Moon – April 10th – June 7th. Based on the delightful book. Recommended for ages 4 and over (pre-kindergarten).
The Seattle Children’s Theatre is located at 201 Thomas Street, with performances in the Eve Alvord Theatre and the Charlotte Martin Theatre. Performance dates and ticket information is available online.
It’s time for me to go looking for a child to take to these performances. I’ve always loved A Tale of Two Cities, and am curious to see what the theater does with it.
How about you? Any of these on your list of favorites?

One of the things I like most about Seattle is that there are these types of activities for both parents and their kids. What child doesn’t like to spend the afternoon at the theater? It’s magical for them and I think the Seattle Children’s theater does a great job of that.

I think my apprecite for theater came from childhood. I have memories of performances that captured my attention and took me to wonderfully magical places. I, too, am glad that Seattle has such offerings for the younger set!
