See Roman Art from the Louvre at SAM

by Mary Jo on April 16th, 2008

Seattle Art Museum entryViewing the Seattle Art Museums’s Roman Art from the Louvre exhibit is the closest you’re going to get to some of this collection of extraordinary art short of paying a visit to the Louvre in Paris.

The exhibition features approximately 180 pieces of ancient art, selected from one of the richest collections in the world, spanning 300 years of Roman history.  You’ll see see artifacts from the day to day life of leaders and commoners of ancient Rome depicted through sculptures, paintings, bronzes, silver, jewelry and glass.  The common becomes beautiful in these works of art.

This section of the Louvre was one of my favorites, so I was very excited about this traveling exhibit.  It won’t disappoint!

Location:  1300 First Avenue, Downtown (map it)

Dates & Times:  Through May 11th, 2008.  Hours are Tuesday - Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm, Thursday & Friday, 10 am - 9 pm, closed on Monday.

Before you go download the FREE audio tour.  It consists of a series of files covering artifacts that you’ll see, give you a background and information to make the most of the your time at the exhibit.
