This Weekend. . .

. . . enjoy the sport of Kings – thoroughbred horse racing -with a visit to Emerald Downs. Opening Day is Friday, April 18th, but racing will continue all weekend.

Great fun for the family, with friends, or just make it a date. Watch the horses in the paddock prior to the race, stand by the rail to hear them fly down the home stretch toward the finish line, and flock to the winners circle for all the congratulations and photos.

Wagering starts at $2, and for a modest sum you can have a financial stake in the outcome of every race on the card.

They’re Off & Running at Emerald Downs

Horse racing returns to Seattle this week with Opening Day at Emerald Down, along with accompanying festivities for the start of this season’s Sport of Kings.

To complement the excitement of the racing season, and to make it a family destination, Emerald Downs schedules a variety of special events throughout the season. These include:

Sound Transit Family Days (Sundays, starting June 17th, that offer free family activities)
Senior Days (those 55 and older receive general admission, an official program, reserved Grandstand or Clubhouse seat and coffee or regular soft drink, for only $3 on Thursdays starting June 1st)
Fabulous Fridays (Horseshoe Toss Challenge on Fridays starting July 6th)

Look for other special events throughout the year that will include FREE or reduced admission and special entertainment.

Location: 2300 Emerald Downs Drive, Auburn (map it)

Dates & Times: The 2008 season runs April 18th – September 28th. The first race is at 6 pm on Thursdays & Fridays; 2 pm on Weekends & Holidays. Special events are scheduled throughout the season.

Admission: $5 general admission, those under 18 years of age are admitted FREE. Reserved Grandstand seating on the 3rd floor is available for an additional $2.50, and reserved indoor Clubhouse seating on the 5th floor is available for an additional $3. Outdoor and indoor box seating is sold by the season and the day.

Parking: General Admission parking is FREE, $5 for preferred parking, and $10 for valet.

While enjoying all these other activities, let’s not forget that it is about horse racing, too — those big, beautiful, and graceful animals that cover distances in what seems like a blink of the eye.
