]]> The Sound of Music, the much loved movie set in the Austrian Alps, was released over 43 years ago, yet still gains new fans with each generation.

Who hasn’t found themselves humming one along to the title theme song, or Do, A Deer, or even Edelweiss? 

Celebrate the New Year with a special showing of the movie at the 5th Avenue Theatre, as they present Sing-A-Long Sound of Music.

This is participatory theater at its finest, with moviegoers encouraged to come in costume.  Cheer for the Von Trapp’s, Boo the Nazi’s, and sing-a-long to all your favorite tunes.  Don’t know the words?  Don’t worry – the song lyrics will appear in subtitles on the theater’s giant screen.

Date & Time:  Friday, January 2nd, 2009, 7 pm and Saturday, January 3rd, 1 pm

Tickets:  $25 adults, $18 children (12 and under)  Tickets include an official “fun pack” full of props.  Buy tickets online, in person at the box office, or by phone, toll-free at 888-5TH-4TIX.

Whether you’re a fan yourself, or are looking for a fun family event, this is a great way to watch a great movie.

]]> pumpkin The family will have a spook-tacular good time at Woodland Park Zoo’s fifth annual Pumpkin Prowl.

This special fundraising event sees the Zoo-mazium becomes Boo-mazium, along with treat stations, entertainment, trick-or-treating, and lots of special goodies.  Costumes are encouraged, but no weapons, swords or other potentially dangerous item.  Be sure to bring your trick-or-treat bag, too.

Additional events include Bug World (where you can visit lots of traditional creepy crawly creatures) and the Family Farm (a big pumpkin patch with some extra surprises).

Location:  Woodland Park Zoo, enter via the South zoo entrance, 50th Avenue North and Fremont Avenue North.

Dates & Times:  October 24 – 26th, 5 – 8 pm

Tickets:  $9 adults, $7 children 17 and under, FREE for children 2 and under.  Tickets go on sale October 6th.  Act quickly, as this event is always a sell out.  Discounts tickets, with a $2 savings, are available at any Bartell’s.

Parking:  Free at all zoo lots.  Free shuttles will provide transportation to and from the south entrance.

Other than at Bug World, none of the other animals will be on display.
