Place Pigalle Autumn Dinner Special

One of my favorite Seattle restaurants, Place Pigalle in the Pike Place Market, is having a great fall dinner promotion.  It’s offering a special Autumn Prix Fixe Menu running for 35 days for a cost of $35/person ($50 with wine pairing added).
The special offers choices for each course, allowing you to pick your favorite or try something new.

First course:  Oysters on the half shell with pomegranate mignonette or Duck confit raviolo, flageolet beans and sage jus.
Second Course:  Grilled radicchio salad with prosciutto, taleggio cheese and a balsamic reduction or Roasted beet salad with baby arugula and chevre de boucheron.

Summer Just Seems to Go Better With an Elysian Beer

Summer Just Seems to Go Better With an Elysian Beer

While the Pacific Northwest may have become know for its wines and wineries, Seattle is also a beer kind of place, with some nice tasting brews along with fun brew pubs and interesting breweries and brewing methods.
On Capital Hill, you’ll find the Elysian Brewing Company with both a full service restaurant and bar and a 20-barrel brewing facility.  A walk by will give you a nice look at both.  The menu contains lots of the usual pub grub, but also offers some vegan options as well.  I’d suggest trying the Steak Frites, grilled sliced flank steak server over french …read more

Enjoy a Dog & a Brew at Shultzy’s

Enjoy a Dog & a Brew at Shultzy’s

The Seattle Traveler, travel, vacation, Seattle Traveler, Seattle, Washington, Washington State, Seattle tourism, travel information, city blogs, destination blogs Is there a more classic summertime food pairing than hot dogs and a beer?  A root beer perhaps for those under 21 or who are beer lovers.
Some of the best dogs in the city will be found at Shultzy’s Sausage in the University District.
Long popular with the university set, Shultzy’s offers simple fare like sausages, burgers, sandwiches, and fries.  In fact, if you ask guests what’s their favorite order at Shultzy’s, you’ll likely hear “the fries.”
The decor is sparse, almost …read more

Restaurant Review: Quinn’s on Capital Hill

Restaurant Review: Quinn’s on Capital Hill

Wandering around Capital Hill one afternoon, and trying to decide on where to grab a simple meal before heading to the theater, I happened upon Quinn’s, and said to my dining companion, “sure, let’s give it a try.”
I didn’t know much about the place, and hadn’t read any of the great reviews and buzz that it had been receiving.  Probably a good thing, because I rarely choose a restaurant based on buzz.  The choice wasn’t made based on great reviews or popularity, or even referrals from friends, it was sheer happenstance.
The restaurant touts itself as a gastropub — pub …read more

Seattle: A to Z

Seattle: A to Z

Several days ago I wrote the ABC’s of travel destinations.  It seemed like a fun way to share some of those places, near and far, that call to me.
Geoff from The Switzerland Traveler picked up on the idea, and listed the Swiss Alphabet.
Here’s another take on the idea as I provide you with Seattle, A to Z:
A – Arboretum for the Japanese Tea Garden & Tea Ceremony
B – Butterfly House at Pacific Science Center
C – Climbing Wall at REI
D – Do the Puyallup
E – Emerald Downs for thoroughbred horse racing
F – Fare Start where having dinner also …read more

Try A Taste of Napoli Without Leaving Seattle

Try A Taste of Napoli Without Leaving Seattle

While I’m traveling in Italy, here’s a suggestion of how you can have a little taste of what I’m enjoying — without having to leave Seattle.  Check out one of the two locations of locally owned Via Tribunali.
Via Tribunali serves up Neapolitan style pizza to discerning patrons hungry for thin, blistered crusts, sprinkled with coarse salt.  The crusts are then  of topped with a light layer of sauce, and then topped with an assortment of toppings.  Some of the more popular toppings include:  garlic, fresh mozzarella, cured meats, and fresh sausage.
With a house salad (greens with olives and proscuitto) …read more

A Seattle Visitor Shares Some Favorites

A Seattle Visitor Shares Some Favorites

Today I have a guest post from fellow b5media blogger Milo Riano.  Milo lives in the Philippines, and shares some of his favorite restaurants and places here in Seattle.  It’s a fun glimpse at what someone who lives outside the U.S. finds endearing about Seattle.

I have been to Seattle three times – 2006, 2007 and March of this year. I would be coming to Seattle again on the last week of April and I am definitely excited on my trip.
I instantly felt at home in Seattle seeing the vast number of places where you can get connected and the …read more

Climb on Board the Taco Bus

Climb on Board the Taco Bus

Today I have a guest post from fellow Seattle blogger, Debbie Dubrow.  Debbie is just one of many wonderful Seattle bloggers.
She writes about traveling with kids, and about her experience traveling with her two your children (ages 3 and 18 months) at DeliciousBaby.com.  Sometimes she needs an adventure close to home, and that what gave rise to this post.

A few months ago, I took my son E (then 2 1/2) to a Taco Bus here in Seattle.
Frequent readers know that E has never met a bus (or train) that he didn’t love. They also know that he’s …read more

Drink From This Vessel

Drink From This Vessel

Before a performance at the 5th Avenue Theater, I stopped in for a quick pre-performance nosh at right-next-door restaurant, Vessel.
Vessel opened 2006 in what was previously retail space.  One look at the exterior and it’s easy to imagine.  The space has been cleverly used, and where mannequins and displays once were, now you’ll find bar seating where patrons can look out onto the sidewalks and streets of the city.  A little too close for comfort for some, however, as it nearly feels like you are on top of the people walking by.
Inside you’ll find a mixture of neutral and …read more
