Some of my favorite artists are hanging around the Seattle Art Museum right now – Monet, Manet, Degas, and Cézanne (image at right:  Still Life With Statuette), among others.  These are just a few of the artists you’ll see in the special exhibit Inspiring Impressionism:  The Impressionists and the Art of the Past.

Viewing the Seattle Art Museums’s Roman Art from the Louvre exhibit is the closest you’re going to get to some of this collection of extraordinary art short of paying a visit to the Louvre in Paris.
The exhibition features approximately 180 pieces of ancient art, selected from one of the richest collections in the world, spanning 300 years of Roman history.  You’ll see see artifacts from the day to day life of leaders and commoners of ancient Rome depicted through sculptures, paintings, bronzes, silver, jewelry and glass.  The common becomes beautiful in these works of art.
