This Weekend. . . . Visit the Outsiders
As the holiday season approaches and we start thinking about spending more time with family and loved ones, it’s also a good time to reflect on those among us who are without shelter and food.
This weekend. . .
. . . take some time to reflect on the disadvantaged here in Seattle with a review of Outsiders, a documentary photo exhibit by Seattle photographer David Entrikin.
This exhibit contains photos of the people living on the streets of Seattle and tries to bring the stories of the clients to life in a very visual way. You’ll see portraits of the homeless in their daily life, photo montages from the One Night count (the 2008 count was 1,976 homeless unsheltered people), life on the street, photos from shelters and temporary homes, and photo diaries that follow an individual’s life for months.
You’d have to be totally heartless not to be moved by this exhibit. If you feel a sense of the misery and loneliness of these members of our community, then it has been a success.
Location: The Upstairs Gallery, 4611 11th Avenue NW (map it)
Dates & Times: Monday – Saturday, noon – 4 pm (and by appointment). Exhibit runs through January 31, 2009.
Admissions: FREE, but consider making a donation to a homeless shelter or other organization committed to feeding and sheltering the homeless.
After leaving the exhibit I urge all of you to make a donation of time, supplies, food, or money to help these outsiders.
