You Can Buy a Miniature Cow in Seattle
People come to visit Seattle for a variety of reasons:
- To visit family and friends;
- To attend a convention, conference, or tradeshow;
- To enjoy year round outdoor activities (from skiing and snow sports in the winter to hiking and water sports in the summer);
- To attend cultural events, and enjoy a thriving music and art scene, and a growing theater scene);
- To attend one of the large community festivals like Bumbershoot, SeaFair, Bellevue Arts & Crafts Fair, Hempfest, Folk Life, or the Bite of Seattle.
Well, here’s one more reason – to take a cow class, and maybe even make a purchase.
These are not just any cows. These are miniature cows, standing about three feet tall and weighing in at a mere 200-350 pounds. Bigger than most dogs, miniature cow owners claim they act much the same, including laying their head in your lap and looking up at you with adoring, big brown eyes. You can brush them, take them for a walk, play with them, and even cuddle them.
Small cows equate to big profits for area breeders, and the Seattle area is evolving as one of the premiere locations to buy these miniature cows. There are 26 registered breeds, a number of which have originated in Southeastern King County, including Auburnshire, Burienshire, Covingtonshire, Kentshire, and Kingshire. (If those names don’t sound familiar, the breeds are named after area cities.)
Most miniature cows are kept as pets. However, meat from the smaller cow does have less fat. . . if you were thinking along those lines.
